How to Play Thirteen
Players take turns playing a card or combination that beats the last one. If you can't or won't beat it, you pass; once everyone passes, the last player to play starts a fresh round.
Ranks and combinations
- Cards rank from 3 (low) up to 2 (high); suits break ties.
- Play singles, pairs, triples, or runs of three or more consecutive cards.
- You must beat the previous play with the same type but a higher value.
- Special 'bombs' (such as four of a kind or consecutive pairs) can beat twos.
Winning
The first player to get rid of every card wins; the others place by how many cards they have left.
Strategy & Tips
- Lead low to force out opponents' weak cards while saving your high ones.
- Keep your twos and bombs for crucial moments — they break opponents' control.
- Break your hand into combinations early so no card is stranded.
- Track who has passed to judge when a round is yours to take.
- Hold a guaranteed winner for your final play so you can go out cleanly.
