Play Canasta Online — Free Card Game
Canasta is the classic partnership melding game played with two decks: build melds of matching ranks, grow them into seven-card canastas, and race your team to 5000 points. Wild cards and red threes add the twists. Play Canasta free with a computer partner.
How to Play Canasta
Each player gets 11 cards. On your turn, draw from the stock or take the discard pile, meld with your partner, then discard. Twos and jokers are wild; red threes are bonus cards.
Melds and canastas
- A meld is three or more cards of the same rank; it may include wild cards, but must have more natural cards than wild.
- A canasta is a meld of seven or more cards — a natural canasta (no wild) is worth more than a mixed one.
- Your team's first meld each round must meet a minimum value based on your current score.
- You can only 'go out' (end the round) once your team has at least one canasta.
Red threes
Red threes are set aside for a bonus and replaced from the stock. They score points — but count against you if your team never gets a meld down.
Strategy & Tips
- Build toward at least one canasta early — you can't go out without one.
- Hold wild cards to finish melds, but always keep more naturals than wilds in each.
- Taking the discard pile can be huge — but only when you can use its top card immediately.
- Meld ranks that both you and your partner can extend.
- Don't go out too early if your partner is still holding a lot of points.
