How to Play Solitaire

The board has four areas: the stock and waste (top-left), the four foundations (top-right), and seven tableau columns. Your goal is to move every card up to the foundations, each built up by suit from Ace to King.

Moving cards

• Build the tableau columns down in alternating colours — a red 6 on a black 7, and so on.
• Move a single card, or a whole ordered run, between columns.
• Only a King may move into an empty column.
• Click the stock to deal cards to the waste (1 or 3 at a time, set in the toolbar) and play the top waste card.
• Double-click any card to send it home to its foundation. When every card is face-up and the stock is empty, the game finishes for you.

Strategy & Tips

• Turn over face-down tableau cards as early as you can — every card you expose opens new moves.
• Don't rush every card to the foundations; you often need a low card on the tableau to receive others.
• Work to empty a column so you can place a King there, ideally one that frees a useful card.
• In Draw 3, watch which cards cycle past so you can plan to catch the ones you need.
• Prefer moves that uncover hidden cards over moves that just shuffle exposed ones.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Klondike Solitaire always winnable?

No. Most deals can be won with good play, but a small fraction are impossible no matter how you play them. If you get stuck, start a new game.

What is the difference between Draw 1 and Draw 3?

Draw 1 turns one stock card at a time and is easier. Draw 3 turns three at a time, so you have to plan around which cards you can reach. Switch modes from the toolbar.

How do you win Solitaire?

Move all 52 cards onto the four foundations, each built from Ace up to King in a single suit.
